AGTBA TRAVELING BASKETBALL REGISTRATION INCREASE 2022-2023

Dear Parents, Guardians and the Andover Girls Traveling Basketball Association (AGTBA) Community,

As the AGTBA Board, we make every effort to lead this basketball program with transparency and integrity with our players and their families. This week we are launching registration for our upcoming 2022-2023 basketball season.  You will notice an increase to registration fees. We want to share why this is happening and ultimately how this should result in costing most families less money for the season overall.

AGTBA as well as most of the traveling basketball associations around the metro area have, or will be, adopting a “No Gate Fee” model. This means you will no longer have to pay at the gate for admission to any of these tournaments. To offset the revenue loss, each association is now charging $125-$250 more per team for their tournament. With 8-10 tournaments scheduled per team (depending on grade level), combined with rising costs for practice gym rental space, the past registration fee no longer allows us to cover the cost of tournament registrations for a full season.

The good news is that while families may have to pay more up front, most families will end up spending less money on gate fees and can bring more spectators without paying additional fees. For example, the average tournament admission fee is $10 per person. For a family with four attendees, that is $40 to watch their family member play. When you take this amount times 10 tournaments, you get about $400 in additional costs during the season. That is assuming it is a one-day tournament.  The increase to play travel basketball for the 2022/23 season will only be $75 which means families will likely be saving hundreds of dollars per child through the no gate fee model.

We will continue offering a payment plan that will allow you to spread the payments out over a longer period of time. Our goal is to continue to build a program that gives athletes of all backgrounds an opportunity to play.
